Graduation Checklist

Eligible bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students should get ready for your big day with this graduation checklist:

  • Review the deadlines to apply to graduate and confirm diploma details (listed in the table below).
  • Purchase regalia (cap and gown).
  • Complete the graduation survey.
    • Students in the MD program at SMHS are not required to complete the graduation survey.  Students may be asked to voluntarily participate in surveys at the time of graduation.
  • Register for Commencement Week Events.

Optional graduation items to consider:

  • Update your voter registration address if you are moving after graduation.
  • Spend your Dining Dollars by May 11. 
  • Apply for Extended Stay Housing by noon on Monday, May 5, if you are a graduating senior living on campus. Extended stay housing ends at noon on Monday, May 19.
  • Sign up to receive updates from Georgie, GW’s Commencement chatbot that provides 24/7 support to graduates and families by texting "Hi" to 1-877-838-0027.  Messaging and data rates may apply; you may opt-out at any time.  You may also chat with Georgie on the Commencement website. 
  • Nominate someone to receive an honorary degree at Commencement on the National Mall
  • Make an appointment to have your Cherry Tree Yearbook picture taken.
  • Update your information with the Alumni Association.

* You may apply to graduate after you complete registration for your final semester of classes.
